CONCEPT
The German pavilion greets visitors with stylized
fields and meadows called "Fields of Ideas," that can
be explored in two different ways.
Taking the first route, visitors can stroll along the
freely accessible landscape level, which invites them
to linger as they would in a public park. Wherever the
trees break through the surface, visitors are offered
insight on highlights in the exhibition below.
The second route leads visitors through the thematic
exhibition inside the pavilion, which showcases
various nutritional sources like Soil, Water, Climate,
and Biodiversity. Visitors are invited to become active
themselves. With the "SeedBoard", which is a small
mobile device, they are given their own Field of Ideas
for navigating exhibits and exploring additional
media information.
INVOLVEMENT
A key theme is the forest, a collection of stylized trees
which rise from the exhibition level to the surface.
They connect indoor and outdoor spaces, exhibition
and architecture. Those trees are made of PVC/PES
material at the top level and ETFE at the bottom level.
Maffeis provided design services for the elements
used in the six trees in addition to the "Blossom"
coverture, the top of the central structure.
