Happy, healthy workplaces
14
Elementa Consulting is at the vanguard of innovative workplace
design, with projects in London's most iconic buildings--"Walkie
Talkie", "Cheese Grater" and Walbrook--and high profile
contributions to events including Ecobuild, Green Sky Thinking
and the May Design Series.
Knowledge of tall buildings, occupier trends and requirements
are critical for these projects. With a finite provision of fresh air
and cooling capacities in most buildings, Elementa's engineers
utilize these provisions dynamically--tracking higher demands
from occupants where and when they arise. Another important
area involves legal issues as it is important for our clients to
understand occupier lease deals and ensure the MEP provisions
are secured early.
Two recent milestones were Elementa's participation in London's
Green Sky Thinking Week 2015 and the company's work on the
Allied World Assurance Company.
Green Sky Thinking Week 2015
In London this April, Elementa organized an exclusive event--
"Towards a Happy Healthy Workplace," as part of the Green Sky
Thinking Week 2015. The evening brought together a cross section
of speakers to present their perspectives on creating happy and
healthy workplaces.
The event was held at the stunning new offices of the Allied
World Assurance Company on the 19
th
floor of 20 Fenchurch
Street--better known as The Walkie Talkie Building. The building's
exceptional interiors were designed by Perkins+Will, with
sustainable building services by Elementa Consulting.
The evening featured a tour around Allied World, giving guests
from some of the UK's most influential companies and design
houses an opportunity to understand more about the business,
and experience the latest in workspace innovation first hand--all
set against the backdrop of London's spectacular skyline.
The WELL Standard:
A novel perspective on what buildings
should do
WELL is the world's first building standard focused
exclusively on human health and wellness.
Launched in 2014, WELL plugs the big gaps in
standards like BREEAM and LEED with an exclusive
focus on achieving superior levels of health and
wellbeing in the workplace. By enhancing mood,
fitness, nutrition, sleep, and performance, WELL
strategies can boost productivity and help reduce
the national cost of sick leave.
WELL offers many design responses and
operational strategies developed with input from
the Mayo and Cleveland clinics. Its development
has been supported by organizations including
Google, Skanska, and the U.S. Green Building
Council.
WELL provides a useful framework for clients
looking to enhance the health and happiness of
their staff, with the potential to pursue formal
certification from the International Well Building
Institute.
