Strength and serviceability are two of the most important factors in high-rise building design. Durability is
another consideration, particularly for structures in aggressive environments. Tall buildings are structurally
designed in accordance with various local and international codes of practice, including the International
Building Code (IBC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
Software is a key part of the high-rise equation; 3D analytical models are needed to simulate the structural
behavior of the building under the action of applicable loads.
The 3D models help engineers check that enough strength has gone into the structural elements, and check
for vertical and lateral deformations. Software also plays a role with wind tunnel testing, another important
factor in high-rise buildings. High-rise specialists need excellent computational facilities; a smooth network of
connected computers allows the entire Dar team to work in unity and share their experiences.
