A bird flying across the mountains may not see it, but drivers in the
Himalayas will soon be welcoming the new Rohtang Tunnel.
This underground road project is a strategic all-weather connection
between the Manali and Ladakh regions (Lahaul-Spiti and Pangi
valleys). Stretching across 8.8 km, the structure is set to be the
longest road tunnel in India.
D2 Consult, a Dar Group member, is helping build Rohtang Tunnel.
The Austrian tunneling firm, along with two other companies, is
serving as the independent engineer. The tunnel's unique location
makes the task both prestigious and challenging, with conditions
involving rockfalls, avalanches, unsettled geology, and glacial
temperatures.
