How Princess Nora University Earned LEED Gold
BY THE pnu tEAM, Dar Al-Handasah
In May, Dar Al-Handasah learned that three colleges
in Saudi Arabia's Princess Nora University (PNU) had
officially been certified as LEED-Gold educational
facilities by the United States Green Building Council
(USGBC). For the Dar team, the moment was a sweet
reward, but also the result of a journey that began
many months earlier.
Achieving LEED Gold at PNU required three essential
qualities: teamwork, perseverance and planning.
Professionals from several disciplines contributed
their sustainable design expertise. Furthermore,
water, lighting, air quality, materials, and the site itself
all entered in the design process and informed it. The
process began at conception - with the USGBC LEED
rating system being adopted as a framework from
the early design stages and feasibility studies - before
progressing into design and then construction.
