While Resilience and Adaptation planning may seem
like a new area, in reality we have been working in this
field for many years. Every time we plan projects with
a 20 or 50-year timespan we have to take into account
the effects of multiple varied future scenarios, including
climate change. An example of this can be seen in
Figures 7, 8 and 9 showing in depth site analysis and the
resulting design recommendations. Every time we plan a
major road we are thinking about the future expansion of
jobs and population, and about potential shocks such as
earthquakes. We study Hydrology and Natural Disaster
potential as due course on projects where there is a
significant investment in a potentially risky area.
The London Sustainability Group in London would like
to invite any and all willing collaborators to help us work
towards our goal of offering a comprehensive Resilience
and Adaptation planning service to our clients. By
showing how we deal with the extremes of climate in
the Middle East, we hope to be able to show the rest of
the world how to deal with their own upcoming climatic
extremes.
