The project is expected to take around two years
to complete, as construction can only be completed
during the dry season in Bangladesh, which only
extends from January to April.
Technical excellence
Penspen was awarded the work based primarily
on the strength of the team's technical expertise
and individual CVs that impressed the client.
It was also able to offer attractive pricing by
drawing on a broad range of skills from within
other Penspen offices.
Additionally, Penspen has strong local support
in the contract from a well-established Dhaka-
based engineering company, BETS, which will be
undertaking environmental studies and providing
all on-site construction inspection activities.
Pioneering technology
Penspen will be implementing WRENCH on this
project, a new engineering document management
and workflow software that enables real-time
collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
The project team will support GTCL in all aspects
of engineering and project management, including
design of the pipeline, stations and related facilities,
preparing bidding documents and evaluating bids,
and supervising the actual construction of the
pipeline, which is planned for completion in
mid-2018. Penspen's work will significantly boost
GTCL's efforts in exploiting Bangladesh's natural
resources and thereby help to avert the advent
of a crisis.
