in-house dialogue | i8 Electrical Engineering A backlit sign cannot be so without back lighting, and the EGD team cannot create luminous signs without the proficient skills of electrical engineers. Part of the electrical engineers’ role is to assist sign designers with issues relating to lighting or digital wayfinding in order to make sure the signs operate as expected. The EGD team specifies the locations of electrical and data outlets, and the electrical engineers work on installing the signs. Electrical engineers also work on preventing signs from overlapping with other electrical services such as spots and smoke detectors. It is certain that this collaboration can grow to become more technically advanced and integrate smart applications within a digital wayfinding system. Mechanical Engineering However limited the role of a mechanical engineer in EGD is, without that role, many complications would arise in the construction phase. The EGD and Mechanical Engineering teams collaborate to make sure a sign is legible from a set distance. Together, the two teams also work together to prevent the fixtures of mechanical structures from overlapping with those of signs. EGD designers and mechanical engineers thus ensure that signage seamlessly blends in with its space. Graphic Design To verify that all cover pages and reports have unified graphics and layouts, the EGD team refer to the Graphic Design Department. The department creates layouts that follow a single, cohesive identity. Fire Safety The Fire Protection unit within the Mechanical Engineering Department helps the EGD team by eliminating any overlaps in signage. The unit also collaborates with the EGD team to develop clear and accurate layouts for evacuation plans, making sure there is no missing information. Project Management Support The Project Management & Contracts team communicates with the EGD unit to ensure that Dar procedures and standards are being followed. 53
