Overview
TotalEnergies is planning an exploration drilling campaign within Block 9 of the offshore gas fields in Lebanon. Dar’s Environmental Team took on the scoping and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for the drilling of the offshore Blocks 4 and 9 in 2019 and 2023.

The project
To ensure the safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly exploration of the offshore gas fields in Lebanon, Dar assisted in the preparation of the scoping and ESIA reports for the TotalEnergies exploratory drilling in offshore Blocks 4 and 9 as a sub-consultant to RSK (UK). Dar was responsible for preparing legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks; and the environmental and social baselines studies, which are main components of the ESIA. The scope also involved meeting with authorities, engaging with stakeholders, and holding public consultation and stakeholder engagement sessions.
Block 4 scoping and ESIA report, and Block 9 scoping report were approved by the Ministry of Environment (MoE) in 2019. Block 9 ESIA will also be reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Environment (MoE).
