Luanda Convention Palace

Location

Luanda, Angola, Africa

Overview

The Luanda Convention Palace is a major seafront convention and events complex designed to host international summits, conferences, exhibitions, performances and executive meetings. Bringing together large-scale event, business and hospitality facilities, it provides Luanda with a flexible new international destination for diplomacy, culture, business and knowledge exchange.

The project

On Luanda's Atlantic waterfront, a new convention destination brings diplomacy, business, culture and knowledge together under one roof. The Luanda Convention Palace was designed as a place where people, ideas and opportunities come together on an international scale.

Developed by the Government of Angola, the Palace occupies an 80,000 m² seafront site in the heart of the capital, set among abundant green parks. It's built to host everything from international summits, congresses and corporate events to cultural performances, seminars, training sessions and executive meetings — all within a single, integrated destination. Its prominent seafront setting establishes a strong relationship between architecture, the city and the ocean, creating a new platform through which Luanda can welcome Africa and the wider world.

Dar had the honor of undertaking the comprehensive design this landmark complex, as well as providing technical coordination during the Construction Stage.

A place for gathering and of exchange

At the entrance of the Palace, the Great Foyer provides a spacious, light-filled setting for arrival, orientation and interaction. More than a circulation space, it is the first of several environments designed to bring delegates, visitors and participants together.

At the centre of the complex is the Grand Theatre, an adaptable venue accommodating up to 3,000 participants in conference configuration. Equipped with advanced audiovisual, presentation and simultaneous interpreting systems, it can host major congresses, summits, international forums and corporate gatherings. The same space can also be transformed for concerts, galas, theatrical performances and other cultural events, allowing the Palace to shift smoothly between conference and performance use.

Spaces for high-level dialogue

For summits, strategic meetings and high-level sessions, the complex includes an Executive Oval Room designed to provide a prestigious and focused setting for dialogue. Supported by advanced technology, multilingual capabilities, adaptable configurations and specialised assistance, the room is intended for meetings between leaders, institutions and international organisations. Executive Rooms complement it with more private environments for smaller meetings and informal discussions. These spaces extend the complex beyond its major auditoriums, providing the range of settings required for different levels and formats of interaction.

Business, meetings and learning

A dedicated Business Centre supports the professional activity surrounding each event, providing high-speed connectivity, workstations, business services and spaces for private meetings. It allows work and collaboration to continue before, during and after formal sessions, supporting the conversations and connections that often develop alongside major events.

A series of seminar, meeting and training rooms, with a combined capacity of more than 1,000 people, provides further flexibility for workshops, training programmes, specialised sessions and smaller conferences.

The palace’s principal functions include:

  • Great Foyer and visitor reception areas;
  • Grand Theatre for conferences, congresses and cultural performances;
  • Executive Oval Room for summits and high-level meetings;
  • Executive meeting rooms;
  • Business Centre and private workspaces;
  • Seminar, training and meeting rooms;
  • Audiovisual and simultaneous interpreting facilities;
  • Supporting event and operational spaces; and
  • Landscaped and park areas integrated within the wider site.

By bringing these functions together within a single but monumental destination, the Luanda Convention Palace emerges as a dynamic platform for diplomacy, business, culture and knowledge exchange; a place where relationships are forged, ideas move forward and new opportunities take shape.

Inaugurated on 24 August 2026, the Palace hosted an African Union meeting associated with the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government on 30 August 2026.

Through its capacity to accommodate gatherings of this scale and significance, the Palace strengthens Luanda’s position on the international stage, creating a distinctive destination for global dialogue and collaboration, while establishing a new gateway through which Angola connects with Africa and the world.
