Overview
Dar provided consultancy services to support the delivery of two major water systems: the Bita (S4) and the Quilonga Grande (S5) systems. Each of the two systems comprises water intake structures, treatment plants, distribution centres, and transmission pipelines, along with other components. Collectively, these two systems are intended to provide reliable access to potable water for regions across Angola, serving millions of people and driving significant environmental and social impacts.

The project
The Bita Water Supply System – S4
The Bita water supply system comprises a water intake structure, intake channel, raw water pumping station, raw water force main, and treatment plant with a capacity of 6 m3/second (with potential for future upgrade to 9 m3/second). The system also includes treated water transmission pipelines, conveying water at 6 m3/second from the CD Bita elevated tank to various connection points. Four distribution centres with varying capacities were also specified for Bita (50,000 m3), Cabolombo (30,000 m3), Ramiros (10,000 m3), and Mundial (10,000 m3). Each distribution centre is equipped with ground reservoirs, an elevated tank, pumping station, chlorination room, substation and generator room, and service buildings. Finally, another processed water treatment plant with a capacity of 25,920 m3/day is a prominent component of the Bita water supply system.
The Quilonga Grande Water Supply System – S5
Similarly, the Quilonga Grande Water Supply System comprises a water intake structure, intake channel, raw water pumping station, raw water force main, and treatment plant with a capacity of 6 m3/second (with potential for future upgrade to 9 m3/second). The system also includes treated water transmission pipelines, conveying water at 6 m3/second across various connection points. The Quilonga Grande system also features six water distribution centres: Cacuaco (35,000 m3), Zango (40,000 m3), Novo Aeroporto (40,000 m3), KM 30 (20,000 m3), Capalanga (10,000 m3), and Bom Jesus (50,000 m3). Each distribution centre is equipped with ground reservoirs, an elevated tank, pumping station, chlorination room, substation and generator room, and service buildings. Another centre, the PIV water distribution centre, was expanded by 20,000 m3 for a total capacity of 50,000 m3, through ground reservoirs and through expansion of the pumping stations and service buildings. As with the Bita water supply system, the Quilonga Grande water supply system also features a processed water treatment plant with a capacity of 25,920 m3/day.
