Qatar, Middle East
Often times, the most striking designs are those that are able to adopt progressive and up-to-date models of architecture and engineering all while maintaining the identity and site-specific culture of a country, thereby catering to local and international masses.
Perhaps there is no better modern example of this than Qatar’s Al Khor Stadium. Incorporating the highest international standards of design, the stadium boasts a capacity to house 70,000 spectators. It also displays a keen understanding and awareness of Qatari cultural particularities with a design based on a direct interpretation of a traditional Qatari tent both in proportion and decoration – most notable through the stadium’s tent-like, pointy peaks.
