Dar’s landscape masterplan and design for the Central Park of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital has attained the Middle East Landscape Sustainability Award 2023 in the “Parks and Recreation” category.

One of the world’s largest new parks and the first of its kind in Egypt and Africa, the New Capital’s Central Park will serve as the cultural, social, and environmental heart of this new sustainable city in the desert, in line with the ambitious vision set by the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities & Urban Communities and the New Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company. This recognition underscores the positive impact our collaborative efforts have had in establishing a community-centred and sustainable city.

The awards ceremony on 15th November was hosted by Landscape Magazine in association with the International Federation of Landscape Architects Middle East (IFLA Middle East) and Saudi Society of Landscape Architectures (SSLA). Industry leaders, experts, and advocates of sustainable landscape architecture attended the event at the Atlantis the Royal in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. Our landscape design teams were joined by the esteemed Chairman and CEO of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development, Khaled Abbas.

Dedicated to recognizing excellence and innovation in landscape architecture and sustainability, the awards covered a wide spectrum of categories this year, with more than 30 awards distributed across seven distinct fields. These categories honored exceptional contributions to sustainability, urban design, parks and recreation, hospitality and retail, tourism, urban landscape art, and landmark legacy. Each project award placed significant emphasis on sustainability, focusing on criteria such as water conservation, energy efficiency, utilization of native plants, and ecological restoration.

The Parks and Recreation category celebrated outstanding projects that excelled in designing sustainable parks and recreational developments, with particular emphasis on inclusive and sustainable spaces that enrich the lifestyles and well-being of individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups – a description that seamlessly fits New Capital’s Central Park.

A captivating 10-kilometer urban oasis nestled in Egypt's New Administrative Capital, Central Park expertly combines natural and man-made elements, offering a variety of historical gardens, leisure activities, eco-conscious landscaping, and distinct zones to cater to a broad spectrum of preferences. Developed by Dar’s Cairo and London landscape architecture teams, this award-winning landscape masterplan not only pays homage to Egypt’s cultural heritage but also stands as a shining example of sustainability, enriching the ecological landscape of the region.
