From October 15 to October 18, Rwanda’s Kigali Convention Centre will host the Global Engineering Conference on Sustainable Development as well as the Executive Committee Meetings of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations.

Under the theme “Engineering Innovations for a Sustainable Future,” the global conference will bring together over 1,000 high-level delegates, engineers, researchers, industry experts, and other specialists from all over the world to share best practices, explore emerging technologies, foster and accelerate collaboration and identify innovative engineering solutions for a more sustainable future.

As one of Rwanda’s leading design consultants, Dar is honoured to be serving as a Platinum sponsor for this critical summit, which will spotlight how engineers can accelerate progress towards five of the United Nations’ key Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education (SDG4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG11) and Climate Action (SDG 13).

During the conference proceedings, on October 17th, Dar’s Partner and Director of Operations for Rwanda Elie Kharrat will participate in a panel discussion on Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. The panel will explore critical themes surrounding building sustainable infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation.

Dar specialises in developing major infrastructure and sustainable development projects – in Rwanda, in Africa, and globally. In Rwanda, Dar is developing the detailed design and supervising the construction of Rwanda’s major new international airport in Bugesera — a US$2 billion airport that will raise the capacity of Rwanda’s aviation sector to over 8 million passengers, transforming Rwanda into a leading African hub for tourism, business, and more. In Rwanda, Dar is also working with public and private stakeholders to deliver a national transport master plan, to connect Rwandan communities through sustainable, effective and resilient public transport.

Dar’s sponsorship of Rwanda’s Global Engineering Conference on Sustainable Development aligns with our commitment to supporting local authorities and stakeholders in crafting innovative engineering and development solutions that work for the unique Rwandan context. We are also committed to connecting with and empowering local Rwandan engineers and experts, by supporting the engineering community in providing a regional and global platform for them to showcase their capabilities.

In Rwanda, Dar relies on its highly talented and ambitious local staff to tailor its global technical expertise to the local context, in order to deliver culturally-sensitive and context-appropriate infrastructure solutions that actually work for Rwandan communities.

That connectivity and the commitment of its Rwandan staff drove Dar to embed itself quickly in its local Rwandan community – supporting community outreach initiatives such as the Girinka Munyarwanda program, partnering with the basketball community to launch the “One Shot One Tree” reforestation initiative, joining with Sidara and Bridges to Prosperity to construct a community bridge, and joining efforts to honour the memory of the victims of the Rwandan Genocide.  In a symbolic endeavour, Dar also recently played a key role in supporting the renovation of Rwanda’s iconic Amahoro Stadium – a monument of national pride that bore witness to some of the most critical moments in Rwanda’s history and that was expanded and refurbished into a state-of-the-art stadium that showcases proof of Rwanda’s resilience and recovery.

Dar is privileged to be able to support engineering for sustainable development initiatives — delivering solutions for more sustainable, resilient, and thriving communities in Rwanda and across Africa.
