Inauguration

On May 6th, the Governor of Riyadh His Royal Highness Prince Faysal bin Bandar Al Saud inaugurated seven stormwater drainage networks, during a ceremony in the Qirawan District of Riyadh.

The entire province of Riyadh regularly experiences thunderstorms, hail, and torrential rain that flood roads, force businesses and schools to close, and negatively affect people, property, and civil infrastructure.

Collectively worth close to US$640 million, the seven new stormwater drainage networks extend over 400 km, providing exceptional protection for neighbourhoods and districts across the Saudi capital. The seven stormwater drainage networks cover various regions and neighbourhoods in Riyadh:

  • North Riyadh
  • Al Masanaa, Al Shifa, Al Marwa, Badr Namar, Al Hazm, Okaz
  • Al Mourej, Al Masyaf, Al Nakheel
  • Al Nizyam, Al Janadariyah
  • Al Aziziya, Al Dar Al Baydaa, Tayba, Al Iskan, Al Manakh, Al Masanaa, Al Mansoura, Al Difaa
  • Al Malka, Hattyn
  • Al-Sulai

The projects will not only drive sustainable development in Riyadh, they will also bolster water resilience and environmental sustainability, safeguarding people and property and enhancing liveability within the city.

Commenting on the projects, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal celebrated the impressive coverage that the stormwater drainage networks would provide in Riyadh, acknowledging and hailing the dedication, work, and effort put in by the Riyadh Municipality and all project stakeholders within the region.

The Municipality’s Undersecretary for Projects Engineer Al-Waleed Al-Arkash stated that the inaugurated projects provide coverage for up to 55% of Riyadh, with another 12 ongoing projects that promise to provide fuller coverage and serve the remaining districts of Riyadh, in line with Vision 2030.

Dar was honoured to support this exceptional project, by providing extensive technical support during construction as well as construction supervision services, to ensure that these essential networks were delivered in line with the expectations and aspirations set for the entire project.
