In a collaborative effort to advance renewable energy in Ethiopia, Dar has signed an agreement with Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP) to oversee the construction of the 100MW Assela Wind Farm. The wind farm is set to supply renewable energy to the people of Ethiopia, marking a major step forward in the nation’s commitment to clean energy.

The Assela Wind Farm, situated in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, will feature a transformer station and a high voltage transmission line to connect to the national grid. Expected to generate 100 megawatts of electricity upon completion, this project will contribute to environmental preservation and diversify the country’s energy mix. It is part of Ethiopia’s broader efforts to expand its renewable energy resources and meet growing energy demands through sustainable means.

The contract signing ceremony was attended by EEP CEO Mr. Ashebir Balcha and representatives from Dar. Sidara company Su-Yapi will support this undertaking with their specialised capabilities.

Dar has been present in Ethiopia and East Africa since 1977, delivering transformative projects across multiple high-impact sectors such as airports, ports, healthcare facilities, power plants, transmission lines, transportation infrastructure, and educational institutions.

This new commitment continues Dar’s legacy of groundbreaking projects in renewable energies across the wider African continent, including the Panyimur - Panyigoro 10 MW Geothermal Power Plant in Uganda and the 750MW Soyo Combined Cycle Power Plant in Angola that aims to provide efficient and sustainable energy to the local community.

Building on a history of successful collaborations, Dar, together with Su-Yapi, is proud to contribute to EEP’s mission of providing green electricity to the communities in Ethiopia.
