Earlier this month and in honour of its 50th anniversary, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats (CTBUH) held its 10th World Congress in its hometown of Chicago, under the echoing theme of 50 Forward | 50 Back. Dar’s representatives – Directors Charles Malek and Daniel Horner – made a series of presentations on Egypt’s New Administrative Capital and on the technical challenges of building tall within the MENA region. In their presentations, the two directors were joined by senior colleagues from the Chicago office of Perkins&Will and by a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Housing.

Over the course of a week, the Congress explored the most significant advancements in tall buildings and cities from the last fifty years, while also inquiring into the future of our cities fifty years from now. This event thus represented a critical reflection on both skyscraper typology and urban development as a whole, by marking their trajectory to date, and considering the evolutions that must take place to accommodate a dynamic and uncertain global future.
