Inauguration

The Luvo Border Customs Station, strategically located along Angola’s northern corridor with the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been officially inaugurated following a comprehensive programme of construction, restructuring, and modernisation led by the General Tax Administration (AGT).

The inauguration ceremony, held on 19 February 2026, was attended by senior government officials, including the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, and the Governor of Zaire Province, alongside representatives from central and local government, as well as wider society.

Spanning an area of 14.4 hectares, the project establishes a new benchmark for border infrastructure in Angola. The development comprises 13 buildings, along with extensive external works, infrastructure, and landscaping. Designed to enhance both operational efficiency and security, the modernised station incorporates upgraded pedestrian control systems, expanded cargo warehouses, a new customs headquarters, and integrated facilities for the fire brigade and border guards. Advanced scanners, inspection areas, and dedicated verification and storage zones further support secure operations.

Complementary infrastructure includes upgraded road networks and parking areas, drainage systems, medical and veterinary posts, residential accommodation for staff, and modern telecommunications and lighting, ensuring a fully integrated and functional border environment.

The upgraded facility enhances customs control efficiency while strengthening border security and facilitating cross-border trade. In doing so, it reinforces Angola’s role as a key gateway to neighbouring countries and supports broader economic growth within Zaire Province.

Dar, in joint venture with Coba, provided consultancy services for the project, contributing to the delivery of a modern and efficient facility. The Luvo Border Customs Station showcases Angola’s commitment to enhancing border management, facilitating smoother trade flows, and fostering sustainable economic growth throughout the region.
