The Ain Sokhna Port Development project, undertaken by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Suez Canal Economic Authority, has achieved a remarkable global milestone.

The project has been officially recognised with a Guinness World Records certificate for creating the deepest artificial port basin on land, reaching 19 metres (62.34 feet), an accomplishment that underscores the scale and ambition of the development. This record was achieved at Sokhna Port, Suez, Egypt, on the 1st of October 2025.

Ain Sokhna Port is one of the most significant ports overlooking the Red Sea and operates under the Suez Canal Economic Authority. As part of a strategic national vision, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport initiated a comprehensive project to complete and develop the port, positioning it as a pivotal maritime hub serving trade between South and East Asia, Europe, and North Africa.

The development includes:

  • Construction of four basins (Basins 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6)
  • Development of new berths extending up to around 18 km with the deepest artificial port basin on land reaching 19 metres (62.34 feet).
  • Creation of trading yards covering 9.2 million m²
  • Upgrade of the pot’s infrastructure and utilities networks to serve the new development.
  • Establishment of commercial and logistics areas spanning 5.2 km²
  • Integration of an internal railway network of 17 km connected to the electric express train (Ain Sokhna – New Alamein)
  • Development of an arterial road of approximately 17 km linking port components

These works collectively enhance the port’s operational capacity and global standing. Throughout the project lifecycle, design and construction supervision services were provided by Dar as part of the Ain Sokhna Port Development.

This achievement highlights the project’s technical excellence and its contribution to advancing Egypt’s maritime infrastructure and logistics capabilities. The development of Ain Sokhna Port also represents a major step in strengthening regional and international trade, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of Egypt’s economic growth.
