1 Piles will be submerged up to the orange level at the start of operation, the water level is expected to reach the green line, still ensuring the safe 5-m margin required for the proper operation of the impellers in 2025 PS3’s expected retirement year. Over 400 load combinations were simulated to design the steel structure members size, the piles’ diameter, and the desired wall thickness. The vertical and racked piles were modeled to support the huge load, prevent overturning, and ensure stability against horizontal and seismic pressures, and Dead Sea’ wave load. The 270-m jetty will hold the twin pipelines and allow access to and from the station of a 220-ton mobile terrain crane and a 50-ton lowboy trailer truck. 2 Dredging work underway carving the receiving basin that will house the pump impellers and the channel at a Dead Sea contour line of -445 m.
