The ACI Middle East Conference: Concrete Conference on Codes, Standards, and Best Practices (ACI-MEC 2023) successfully concluded in Riyadh on November 28 and 29, 2023. The conference served as a platform for leading local and international experts to share their insights and technical expertise on new and existing concrete structures, codes and standards, as well as innovative and sustainable approaches in the concrete construction industry.

The event was organized by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) in collaboration with Saudi Building Code National Committee (SBCNC) and Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), and under the patronage of His Excellency Dr Saad bin Othman Alkasabi, Governor of SASO and Chairman of SBCNC.

Dar attended the conference both as a sponsor and as part of the technical panel discussions, with delegates from our offices across the Kingdom, including our offices in Riyadh, Khobar, Makkah, and Madinah.

The event featured two days of technical panels and presentations on a wide range of topics, such as ACI codes and initiatives, environmental engineering, additive construction standards, materials and more, to address the challenges currently faced by the industry. ACI’s 100th President Prof. Antonio Nani spearheaded the event through several keynote presentations.

The conference also included a panel discussion on Concrete Construction Productivity in collaboration with the ACI Centre of Excellence for Advancing Productivity. The session, titled "What’s Holding Back Productivity?" featured Charles Malek, Director of Structures & Bridges Engineering at Dar, who shared valuable insights on productivity strategies that can tackle struggles faced by engineers, contractors, and owners within the concrete construction industry.
