Sustainability

For the fourth consecutive year, Dar and Sidara will participate in the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference (COP 30), held this year in Belém, Brazil from Monday November 10th to Friday November 21st.

This November, experts from Dar, Perkins&Will, TYLin, and Currie&Brown will present a bold vision for the future of the built environment – one that responds to the converging pressures of climate change and demographic transformation.

Our thought leadership and discussions this year will tackle the challenge many regions face in building the necessary healthcare and transportation infrastructure to support older adults – without triggering a surge in embodied and operational carbon. From constructing net zero healthcare facilities and electrifying mobility to retrofitting existing assets, Sidara will showcase integrated strategies that enable inclusive, low-carbon development.

About COP30

The first COP summit hosted in the Amazon region, COP30 aims to spotlight tropical forests and their invaluable role in climate action and healthy ecosystems worldwide. Its core themes cover climate finance, forest protection, fossil fuel phase-out, climate justice, and adaption – with an additional theme of “Uniting for our Forests,” integrating biodiversity and climate agendas and drawing inspiration from Brazil’s unique context.

Our partnerships and initiatives

This year, Sidara will partner with the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, a  leading global platform for governments, private sector, civil society, research, and intergovernmental organizations advocating for a zero-emission, efficient and resilient buildings and construction sector. Sidara will sponsor its GlobalABC Buildings and Cooling Pavilion.  Envisioned as a hub for cross-sector collaboration, innovation, and ambition, the Pavilion brings together the full cooling and built environment value chain, with policymakers, businesses, and practitioners showcasing cutting-edge solutions and scalable implementation.

Dar is also partnering this year with the Egyptian Green Building Council.

Our workshops

Dar’s Sustainability Manager Dr. Hala Omar will be representing Dar at COP30, contributing to two panel discussions. Registrations for the events are open, both in person and over livestream:

Our contributions at COP30 reflect our ongoing commitment to advocating for a more sustainable, climate-resilient built environment for all our communities around the world.
